SIBSON

Simple interline hybrid.

Originator - Plant Production Institute nd. a V.Ya. Yuryev of NAAS and Selection and Genetics Institute - National Center for Seed and Variety Study of NAAS (Odessa).

It has been entered in the Plant Variety Register of Ukraine for growing in steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine since 2013.

Approbation characteristics: plant height - 165 cm; markedly convex calathid up to 20 cm in diameter; huskness - 22%; incrustation – 99.6%; mass of 1,000 seeds - up to 66 g; oil content in seeds – up to 50.3%; oil yield is 1,765 kg/ha, which exceeds the standard by 262 kg/ha.

Biological features: ripeness group - early maturing, growing season - 99 days. Lodging resistance- high. Shedding resistance - high. Downy mildew resistance - high. Broomrape resistance - high. Sufficiently drought-resistant and root rot resistant.

Economic features: The yield capacity of the sort Sibson exceeds the standard by 0.54 t/ha in the competitive variety trial. The hybrid crop potential – 3.9 t/ha, the female parent plant crop potential – up to 2.1 t/ha.
Peculiarities of cultivation technology: recommended density – 50,000 plants per hectare. Seeds must be treated with pesticides and fungicides. Depth of seed placement is 6 cm. Roller compaction is required upon moisture deficit.

Peculiarities of seed industry: in the hybridization areas the parent lines are sown simultaneously. The female parent plants must not be left to stand too long in the hybridization areas. It is required to provide 3 honey-bee colonies per ha for efficient pollination. Harvesting is performed without desiccation when the seed moisture content is 10-12%. Promptly perform primary peeling and additional drying until the moisture content is 7%. The yield of certified seeds is 65 - 70%.
